The Coal Authority is a small organisation with a big remit and great people. We work hard to live up to our mission of making a better future for people and the environment in mining area by being ambitious, open minded and bold. We put our great people at the core of what we do, whether that’s delivering for our customers or providing services to other government departments and agencies, local governments and commercial partners.

Our work can touch lots of peoples’ lives from buying a mining report which helps keep the housing market moving to dealing with members of the public affected by coal mining gas, subsidence or hazards.

We’re very proud of our history and over the past 25 years we’ve protected and enhanced the environment by building mine water treatment schemes which prevent mine water pollution from getting into drinking water as well as invested in solar energy to help reduce our footprint and power some of our sites.
